Memories are Powerful Gifts, Meant to be Shared and Savored
Ventura County Star (Ventura, CA),
August 30, 2004
Summary:
I've always thought it would be a worthwhile service to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren to gather up the stories of our living history and record the memories of our ancestors. Or, if possible, invite grandmothers or grandfathers to our schools to answer questions of what it was like, from a person who was there.
The reason we are so pleased by recollection is that nostalgia brings the past into focus and lets us savor special moments by creating a stage where everyone can live again. As a student in a writing class, you are allowed to observe, as a generation of Americans brush aside the cobwebs of time, to share delightful stories of long ago.
Subjects Covered:
education, personal storytelling
