Franklin Square Plan Attracts Positive Reviews

The Inquirer (Philadelphia, PA) , September 29, 2004

A plan to renovate Franklin Square, which includes bringing storytellers to the historic district, has generated some high hopes along Independence Mall.

14 to 17 benches would serve as stages for storytelling. Visitors would also be able to embark on tours of historic attractions outside the immediate area, such as Valley Forge and Fort Mifflin.

"There should be ways for people to be drawn through the park and the historic district," said Phil Sheridan, a park spokesman. "Although it involves different approaches from what the Park Service has traditionally done, it goes to the strength of the Park Service, which is to tell the stories of the park."
