Long, Long Ago... But Not in Singapore

Electric New Paper (Singapore) , November 23, 2004

The newly launched Asean Stories Project has set out to record stories from the region, but so far on their website there's only one Singapore myth - that of Sang Nila Utama seeing a lion on the island and naming it Singapura.

Ms Persis Wong, 22, the main co-ordinator of the initiative, said: "Through the generations, our legends and stories could have been buried. It's time to revive them."

Another storytelling initiative is the Great Singapore Stories, a day dedicated to celebrating stories and storytelling to the entire nation.
