It Takes a Telling Look to Sell a Tale
Summary:
Bringing the magic of storytelling to life is the goal of a collaborative effort between the Frisco Public Library and Frisco Community Theater.
The two organizations are presenting a Winter Tales storytelling concert featuring nine young student storytellers who previously intrigued the audience at Frisco's fall storytelling festival.
The storytellers were selected from elementary and middle school children who submitted audition tapes to be considered for the fall festival.
"We are trying to build enthusiasm among young children for the art of storytelling," said Mayra Diaz-Archin, youth services librarian.
"We want to teach storytelling to children, so they will keep the tradition alive. Reading and storytelling is in competition with video games and sports. Yet, it's the interaction that takes place between storytellers and the audience that can transport the listener to another time and place. Learning storytelling develops skills in public speaking, poise, articulation and confidence."
