A Long Tradition of Storytelling
Summary:
Sidon, Lebanon has rich history of hakawatis (storytellers) who kept audiences spellbound.
Many Sidon residents still remember Hajj Ibrahim, who passed away in 1981, as the last of the hakawatis.
A hakawati, or storyteller, Hajj Ibrahim was famous throughout the region for his skill in recounting a story, which brought people from the capital to Sidon to hear him speak.
Ancient craft of regaling people with stories of heroes has now died out.
