County Fair Will Feature Pow-wow

Cheboygan Daily Tribune (Cheboygan, MI) , August 4, 2004

Summary:

Local residents seeking a sampling of American Indian history can do so for the first time this year at the Cheboygan County Fair.

According to organizer Linda Carlson, the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is joining forces with other Northern Michigan tribes to put on a two-day pow-wow at the fairgrounds, with most activity taking place on Aug. 11 and 12.

Emphasizing education, history and awareness, organizers plan on hosting native storytelling, dances, burning ceremonial fires and offering authentic items for purchase, said Carlson.
