BaoBao Festival Celebrates African Culture

Boulder Daily Camera (Boulder, CO) , March 6, 2005

Summary:

The second annual BaoBao Festival will bring the dances, drumming, traditional costumes and stories of West Africa from under the BaoBao tree in Ghana to theaters in Boulder and Denver.

"The BaoBao itself is a big tree where we tell stories, so this (festival) is going to be how the king and the queen sit and stay for people to see how it is in Africa," said Adjei Abankwah, co-producer and director of the BaoBao Festival, a multi-day celebration of diverse cultures taking place in Boulder, with a dancing and drumming performance Friday at the Boulder Theater and a storytelling performance Saturday at the Boulder Public Library.

Denver events also are planned.
