Kids Get a Kick Out of Reading

A unique project which aims to use sport to promote better literacy skills among young people has been launched in Londonderry.
It involved sports coaches being trained in how to tell and read sports-based stories to children at local primary schools.
"By using the medium of storytelling, whether it is a personal tale or folklore, children can become involved in sport and, although this was not initially planned, the scheme also recruited new fans to the sports clubs that are involved in the project,"
said a spokeswoman for
Verbal Arts Centre.
