Summary:
Storyteller Donald Ross Jr. believes your imagination is a whole lot better than anything Steven Spielberg could show you. The Machias storyteller encouraged area youth to use their own imaginations Wednesday when he brought his bag of yarns and folk tales to Skyway Middle School as part of the school's fourth annual Literacy Celebration.
While this year's theme is "Books: The Other Channel," Mills said the event also covers writing and the oral tradition, which is why organizers brought Ross up for the occasion.
"I want to give people a fresh appreciation for their imagination," Ross said Wednesday between presentations. "And I want to help keep stories alive."
"I thought it was fun," sixth-grader Jaylee Fox said Wednesday after hearing some of Ross' stories. "I love stories because they're just like traveling. One minute you're sitting on a couch and the next minute you're in the middle of an awesome adventure."
